Your story
Tell us about yourself and what you do at Vanquis, without using your job title.
I run a portfolio of projects in the Modern Workplace space, ensuring colleagues have a great technology experience and that we continue to innovate the technology they work with. I also manage other projects across the wider business in areas such as finance and treasury.
What attracted you to Vanquis, and why did you decide to join?
I’ve always wanted to get into the banking industry. Having come from a technology and sports betting background, I understood the technology and regulatory environment banking sits within.

Vanquis is always changing and trying to become a better business to work in, with a focus on improving technology and ways of working.

How does your work make a difference to customers, colleagues or the wider business?
I work on projects to improve ways of working for colleagues, listening to feedback, and finding better ways of doing things.
Problem solving
What’s a complex problem you’re tackling today that candidates might find exciting?
We’ve merged multiple companies over the past few years, requiring our technology platforms to change so that all colleagues can be within a single environment. I’ve managed several projects to migrate these colleagues, ensuring everyone is on one Vanquis platform.
Building what's next
What excites you most about the future of your area?
I get to work on a variety of projects in different business areas at the same time, meaning I can focus not only on colleague improvements, but also on customer and wider business improvements.
I’m currently working on implementing a new asset liability management system, which will greatly improve how the bank manages risk and liabilities.

What exciting problems are you solving with technology?
One technology projects can span a large number of teams to deliver something that appears simple. It’s always a pleasure engaging with new teams and getting them bought into the projects and products we’re delivering.

Vanquis is great at providing training, with a wealth of external training courses.

What has surprised you most about the culture here?
The culture here is not of a corporate bank. People are nurtured, and help is always available.

If we spoke again in two years, what would you hope to have achieved?
I’d like to see the team I’m in grow, offering more formalised portfolio manager roles and greater opportunities for line management.
